Joseph Georg Meinert and His Work in the Context of the German Cultural Life in the Czech Lands at the End of the 18th and in the First Half of the 19th Century.

The presented thesis contextualizes Joseph Georg Meinert's life and his writings in German spiritual life in the Czech lands at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It aims to analyze the subject matter of the whole spectrum of his works. His writings attest to the life of this German-speaking teacher, tutor and professor as well as scholar. Equally, they show the cultural and historical development at the time when the patriotism in the Habsburg monarchy begun to evolve. In the thesis Mainert's texts are divided into groups according to their genres and recurring themes and motives. Next, the texts are analyzed by comparison with the information occurring in the secondary literature and the preserved fragments of Meinert's diaries. The results of the analysis confirm that Meinert's creations authentically documented the historical, political and cultural circumstances of that time. The creations influenced not only the patriotically thinking fellows and writers in the Austrian, Czech and German lands, but as an editor he also had influence on the less educated readers of his journals. Eduard Goldstücker (1913 - 2000). Significant Prague germanist, journalist and politician.

This master's thesis introduces the essential biographical sources for the research of the great personality of European German studies, journalism and politics, Prof. Eduard Goldstücker (1913- 2000): Prozesse: Erfahrungen eines Mitteleuropäers (1989), Vzpomínky 1913-1945 (2003), Vzpomínky 1945-1968 (2005) and Von der Stunde der Hoffnung zur Stunde des Nichts: Gespräche (2009). As the coordinate axis for understanding of the development and extensive areas of operation of this unique type of germanist serve the massive social and historical transformations in the 20th century Europe: The Great Depression, the World Wars, anti-Semitism, fascism, the Cold War, Stalinism, the Prague Spring and the period after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The focus of this thesis are Goldstücker's professional, editorial and journalistic activities and interconnected efforts in the field of diplomacy, politics and current affairs, which make him a scientific and social personality of exceptional importance.

The Concept and Structure of Foreign Philologies in the Czech Republic and France

The theme of my bachelor's thesis is the Concept and Structure of the field of study of Foreign Language Philology in the Czech Republic and France. The aim of my thesis is to compare the structure of the fields on a sample of selected universities namely the Faculties of Philosophy in the Czech Republic and France. The work is divided into two main parts. In the first one I will focus on the Comparative Pedagogy, which deals with the international comparison of education systems. I will mention the European Higher Education Area creation, the present situation of tertiary education and the process of accreditation in both countries. The foundation of English studies, German studies and Romance studies in the Czech universities will be outlined. In the second part I will focus on the specific areas of foreign language philology studies in Czech selected universities compared to French one - the University of Southern Brittany in Lorient.
